Well, hasn’t isolation been a largely dehydrating time for us all. While breakouts have been probably the most complained-about skin side effect of the last few months in lockdown, dry and dehydrated skin would have to be a pretty close second. As we slowly come out of isolation and into Winter, conditions are not exactly going to get any easier on our skin. We’ll be spending more time huddled by the heater, blasting the heating in our cars, and being whipped by Winter winds and cooler temps. Hydration has never been more important.
One of the easiest and most satisfying ways to hydrate your skin is with a face mist. It’s a take-everywhere skin fix that’s ideal for busy and/or lazy types looking for instant gratification.
What is a face mist?
A face mist or face spray is a hydrating liquid you spritz over your face to instantly refresh and moisturise your skin. We think of it as a light, spray-on moisturiser; a face mist is usually full of moisture-boosting ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid (which can hold 1000 times its own weight in water) and often contains calming, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant vitamins to soothe and protect the skin from environmental factors. FYI, a face mist is different to a setting spray which you use to set your foundation finish and help it stay in place longer.
What we love about face mists is the way they deliver an instant result; not only do they make your skin look more hydrated and radiant but you feel instantly refreshed and revived. And who doesn’t want to look and feel like that?
What will a face mist do for my skin?
First up, a face mist will instantly rehydrate your skin, drenching it in hydrating ingredients which will help to minimised those visible signs of dehydration: fine lines around the eyes and forehead, a crepey texture to the skin, and dullness. It can also provide antioxidant protection against free radicals (a contributor to premature ageing) and calm any surface inflammation. A face mist treats skin to an invigorating reset and can even refresh your makeup during the day (again depending on the formulation and the type of makeup you’re wearing).
skinstitut Multi-Active Mist is one of our favourite face savers for the way it instantly soaks the skin in Hyaluronic Acid, soothing Vitamin B3 and C, and refreshing Ginseng and Green Tea. Regular spritzing keeps those visible signs of dehydration off your face and protects your skin against environmental aggressors.
Which skin types should use a face mist?
Basically any skin can benefit from using a face mist, depending on the formulation and ingredients in it, of course. A face mist will give instant relief to the dehydrated, the dry, those who work in air-conditioning and central heating, frequent flyers (oh to be one of those again!), and people who need a mid-afternoon pep-up and a 3pm spritz (minus the alcohol content). A calming face mist will also relieve inflamed skins and will be particularly helpful for sunburn relief and after heat-inducing treatments like laser to soothe and settle the skin.
